Geo-Spatial MappingCarehome Enquiries and Catchment Areas

Welcome to the mapofcare.co.uk mapping site. Here we use data to explore spatial aspects of population groups in relation to carehomes.

Although we present an example of the catchment areas of enquiries, this analysis framework could be applied to any population group.

What am I looking at?Enquiries Patterns

This site hosts interactive maps for catchment areas of enquries made to care homes in the UK.

In this example, the spatial representations of enquiries identifies the locations of the potential service users, the type of the enquiry and the progression of the enquiries through time.

The examples we give here are for public use and we have the necessary permission to display the data in this form. Enquiries Mapping Demo

How to read the mapsGuide to Visualisation

Our maps are very interactive because we want you to read the map your way - press things, and move sliders to see what they do, or read the short description below.

Colour indicates the type of the event. We colourise the middle to represent the outcome, and the outer ring to represent the care category related to the event

Shape of an icon tells you what it represents. Circles represent the location of events, and the star is the location of the home

Size of a circle indicates the (potential) fee associated with the care category

Customising the Visualisation Most maps will contain the following sliders:

Radius allows you to change the size of the circles. Choose smaller circles for a precise visualisation and a wider radius for a more general overview

Date sliders allow the rapid windowing of data for the date range of interest.

Statistics provide insight and help to contextualise the data. In this simple example, we present a distribution of distance of each potential service user to the care home.

For the selected time window, distances are presented as an aggregate distribution, factored by care category.

Pop-Ups accessed with a simple mouseclick, provide details of each enquiry plotted, such as current status, location, fees and care category.

Data AnalysisAn integrated approach

These maps allow us to explore the evolution of the spatial distribution of care service enquiries through time, by dependency and funding factors.

Geo-spatial data analysis can be extended with the use of our in depth enquiries and demand management tool for detailed exploration of the sources, patterns and risk factors associated with service user demand.

The further addition of operations analysis tools creates a comprehensive performance measurement, risk analysis and monitoring framework.

Build in depth intelligence for service user demand, behavioural analysis, relationship management and resource allocation.

Why not explore your data with our tools. Generating catchment area maps is a simple as uploading the relevant data in an appropriate format. Whatever your questions, we can help you to discover answers.

Developments

This example is one of a range of our UK focussed geo-spatial mapping developments. Applications include the analysis of demographic trends, socio economic indicators, wealth distribution and how these factors relate to the supply & demand for care services.

The data was processed using Open Layers 3 and Open Street Map.
